Montessori Math

Montessori math materials are among the most effective educational tools in the world. Using hands-on manipulation of beads, chains, counters, rods, and cards, children actively explore and discover mathematical principles. As they prepare to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, they develop a deep, conceptual understanding of math.

The decimal system is introduced as early as preschool, allowing children to see and feel the differences between units, tens, hundreds, and thousands. The Montessori Math Curriculum stands out for its multi-sensory approach, providing engaging learning experiences that build a strong foundation for abstract mathematical thinking. From tracing sandpaper numbers to dynamic lessons on mathematical functions, Montessori students develop exceptional numerical skills and a profound grasp of mathematical concepts.

In 2004, Marlboro Montessori Academy and Jean Avery received a U.S. Patent for their innovative "Math Made Easy" learning boards, which offer a hands-on Montessori approach to understanding basic math concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. These materials, central to our Montessori Advantage® enrichment/tutoring program, are used to support students of all ages, including those who are home-schooled or seeking academic enhancement. The program caters to students from all schools, offering both remedial support and advanced challenges. Through targeted, individualized instruction using Montessori materials, children develop a solid foundation in various subjects, with most parents opting for small group sessions.
